Abstract & Title is locally-owned business with seven locations in the greater Indianapolis area. The company has focused on real estate transaction services since 1902.
With more staff and employees bringing their own wireless devices into each office, IT Administrator Chris Cherry needed to find a way to provide wireless access on a limited budget. But with sensitive business information on their staff network, it was critical that the guest and staff networks be completely separate.
“We needed a way to allow customers to be able to surf the web and check their email while in our offices, but keep them totally separate from our private network,” said Cherry.
Cherry tried a number of other products, but nothing met his needs.
“Most other products required managed switches or VLANs in order to keep the networks separate,” he said. “The other products never lived up to what they promised.”
Cherry was almost ready to give up or ask for a significantly higher budget, but that changed when he discovered Open Mesh. He ordered a single OM2P access point to try out.
“When it came in, I took it out of the box and logged into CloudTrax,” said Cherry.
With CloudTrax, Cherry set one SSID to give customers a secure tunnel to the Internet and set another SSID to be an extension of the office’s private LAN. He also set up different DNS servers on each network.
“In about ten minutes, my network was setup and it was working the way I wanted it to,” said Cherry. “I was shocked.”
Cherry immediately ordered enough access points to cover the six additional offices, installing one or two in each location. Using a single login, he now manages and monitors the networks in all offices from anywhere using just his laptop or smartphone.
“You don’t need to be an IT wiz to deploy these,” he said. “The cloud management is very easy to use: once you type in all your information, just simply plug in your device and you can basically set it and forget it.”
Cherry points to Open Mesh’s ease of use and reliability as the key features for small businesses.
“They just simply work,” he said.

He notes that both customers and staff are thrilled with the added service.
“I have a reliable stable wireless network that works the way I want it to, and I did it with very little effort on my part.”
Cherry also appreciated not having to purchase any additional equipment in order to build what are essentially two separate networks.
“This product has met all of our needs, and I cannot stop bragging about how well they work to other people,” said Cherry.
